The Origin of 'Smile & Sign'
I was amazed and smiled each time my baby signed to me, especially a new word.
Hi! I am Naomi, my baby (who is now a preschooler!), was at risk of speech and language delays, that's how I entered this new world of 'Key Word Sign', so that I can speak and sign at the same time with him, to help him understand and to communicate with us.
I completed both AUSLAN based Baby Signing Parent Course and Advanced Certificate in Key Word Sign - Teaching Others to use Key Word Sign, and I have since added this specialisation into my business portfolio.
Watching how my bilingual child progressed and exceeding his speech and language ability from signing,
I developed the 'Smile & Sign' programs for parents and early childhood educator as I witnessed the benefits and importance of introducing Key Word Sign from infancy.
My main purposes of running these programs are:
1) To offer parents, caregivers and early childhood educators a tool, and
2) To give babies, toddlers and children with different background - a voice,
via AUSLAN Key Word Sign, to promote early communication and connection with their caregivers.
Directors and educators play vital roles in fostering early communication of young children under their care.
My Smile & Sign Program is designed to equip educators with a simple, effective and age-appropriate tool, AUSLAN Key Word Sign, empowering you to support a positive and inclusive environment where all children, regardless of their background and verbal abilities, can communicate.
This Program is beneficial for educators caring in rooms for all ages; infant, toddlers, preschooler, migrants and children with all language and developmental needs can find Key Word Sign useful in understanding, as well as to expressing their needs, thoughts, and emotions.
The 3 hours workshop covers both theoretical and practical component of Key Word Sign, learning up to 80 key signs. At the end of the workshop, educators can learn and appreciate the benefits and importance of Key Word Sign. More importantly, they will have the confidence and content to introduce Key Word Sign in their daily routines and curriculum.
All materials will be provided.
